We are extremely excited to announce the launch of our Non-Profit Company – Safe Space RSA. Safe Space is a female run and owned Non-Profit Company that aims to fight Gender Based Violence through social awareness generated through user-based incident reporting.
The NPC’s newly built website will serve as an early warning system to prevent womxn and the LGBTIQA+ community from being in Gender Based Violence hot spots.
The Safe Space website can be used to access various resources in the fight against GBV, with updated shelter databases, emergency contact numbers, psychological resources, self-defense training, merchandise and so much more. Visit www.safespacersa.com
We at Safe Space endeavour to create Safe Spaces for all Womxn and members of the LGBTIQA+ community, in public spaces, in their homes and in their minds.
As professionals who have worked with, and been survivors of Gender Based Violence, Founding directors Nakita Naee’lah Dellwaria and Chloe Homer are passionate about creating innovative, proactive solutions to the Gender Based Violence pandemic South Africa is facing.
The official launch of the innovate website will be on the 24th of August 2020, which is commemorative of Uyinene Mrwetyana’s death, a 19 year old womxn who was raped and then bludgeoned to death with a scale in a Post Office in August 2019, a place she thought would be a safe enough space to be in.
Safe Space understands that womxn and the LGBTIQA+ community are under threat everywhere they go, because GBV is prevalent across all races, ages, religions, cultures, or socio-economic standings- which is exactly why we have created the solution to equip Womxn and the LGBTIQA+ community with a tool to help ensure their safety- Soweto to Sandton, Greenpoint to Mitchells Plain. Safe Space is a tool to be used Nationwide.
Follow the Safe Space team on Social Media to keep up with the reclaiming of spaces through non-abrasive chalking events nationwide.
